Thai integrated circuit assembler, Alphatec Electronics, listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 1993. Problems began to emerge in 1996 when a slowdown in the global semiconductor industry led to falling profits. As concerns over the company's financial health increased, its share price collapsed and lost 98% of its value by the time of its debt default in May 1997. It transpired that the company had faked all of its profits since at least 1994 and was, in reality, deeply loss-making. Alphatec Electronics is a confirmed fraud.
