Boer Power Holdings Ltd (1685 HK)

Year: 2015

Chinese electrical distribution company Boer Power listed on the Hong Kong Exchange in October 2010. The first warning signs appeared in July 2015 when a Chinese business magazine, Capital Week, published an article which alleged that Boer's margins were too high and its receivables too large. Boer denied the allegations but six months later, in February 2016, there were a number of director resignations. The next month, in March 2016, the company released FY15 results which revealed that it had been financing financially distressed customers. Its share price duly collapsed. Financial performance thereon deteriorated with revenues falling more than 80% and large losses on the back of receivable and other impairments.
