Chinese semiconductor company Spreadtrum Communications listed in the US via a 2006 reverse merger, upgrading to the NASDAQ in June 2007. In June 2011, short-seller Muddy Waters issued an open letter to Spreadtrum's chairman highlighting some governance issues and alluding to possible fraud. The company denied the allegations. It was acquired by Tsinghua Unigroup in July 2013 for US$1.8bn. The allegations against Spreadtrum remain unproven.
